What to do If Your Laundry Room Calls for Deep Cleaning?

Cleaning Services

Do you even ever include laundry room cleaning in your cleaning checklist? You should because your laundry room deserves deep cleaning every month or two. In addition, keeping your laundry room clean and organised will help you do your laundry more efficiently and effectively.

What to do or how to start with laundry room cleaning? We got you covered because here’s a guide on keeping your laundry room free of dirt, mildew, and odours.

Deep Cleaning

Declutter your laundry room.

The first step is to declutter before dusting and vacuuming the laundry room. Sort and organise your laundry items, such as detergents, fabric softeners, stain removers, baskets, hampers, and cleaning tools and designate areas for them so they don’t end up everywhere.

By making your laundry room clutter free, you can move around easily and avoid forgetting where you store your laundry needs.

Clean the Dust

Like other rooms, dust can also settle in the laundry room, from the counters to the shelves and light fixtures. You wouldn’t want all that dust settling on your newly washed sheets and white shirts.

Start your laundry room cleaning routine by dusting every corner in the laundry room. We recommend using a microfibre duster with an extendable handle to reach the ceiling, shelves, and light fixtures. Also, don’t forget to dust these areas too:

  • Countertops
  • Around windows
  • Baseboards
  • Shelves
  • Exhaust/ceiling fan
  • Dryer and washer exteriors

Make sure that you remove dust starting from the ceiling down to the floor, so you won’t have to repeat your work.

Give your laundry appliances a deep clean

The more you take care of your laundry appliances, the lesser chance you’ll buy new ones soon, so occasionally, give them a deep clean. Here’s how you can do it:

Washing machine

    1. Scrub the residue and mould on the drum, detergent dispenser, and rubber gasket with a toothbrush, water, and mild detergent.
    2. Run a hot water cycle with white vinegar to remove built-up grime and odours.
    3. Wipe down the exterior of the washing machine with a damp cloth.

Dryer

    1. Clean the lint trap and exhaust vent to prevent fire hazards and improve dryer efficiency.
    2. Wipe down the interior and exterior of the dryer, including the drum and control panels, with a damp cloth.
    3. Remove and clean the filter.

Sink

    1. Clean the sink basin, faucet, and handles with mild detergent and water.
    2. Use a brush and soap to remove stains and grime.
    3. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

Don’t forget to clean the crannies.

It’s common to overlook cleaning the crannies of your washer and dryer, but here we remind you that you shouldn’t. Surely, there will be accumulated dust, clumps of dirt, and balls of lint hiding behind your washer and dryer.

So move your washer and dryer whenever you vacuum your laundry room floor. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Pull out the washer unit while keeping an eye on the drain pipes, making sure that these don’t get disconnected.
  2. If you see any moisture on the back of the unit, use an old rag or sponge to wipe it dry before the mould grows.
  3. Get a vacuum cleaner and clean the entire back of the washer, along with the corners, walls, and floor, before putting it back in its place.
  4. Carefully put the washer back in its place.

Add some finishing touches.

Keeping your laundry room fresh doesn’t stop at simply cleaning. Here are some suggestions of what you can do to take laundry room cleaning a notch further:

  1. Organise and label laundry supplies: Keep laundry supplies neatly organised in designated storage areas and label containers or shelves for easy access.
  2. Add fresh scents: Use air fresheners or essential oils, if you prefer the natural method, to keep your laundry room smelling fresh.
  3. Improve lighting: Upgrade lighting fixtures to provide ample light for sorting and stain removal tasks.

Laundry room cleaning might seem intimidating, but if you follow these simplified steps, you’ll be done quickly. You can do laundry more easily with a clean and organised laundry room.
